Forest Restoration/Wildfire Mitigation Project Starting soon near Bailey

Jefferson Conservation District - Matt McMeloreMay 16, 2026

In partnership with the US Forest Service, Jefferson Conservation District (JCD) will soon begin work on a 300-acre fuels reduction project on both public and private property east of Bailey, near the Burland Estates neighborhood. This is a multi-resource benefit project, with goals including reducing the risk of catastrophic, high-intensity wildfire, protecting water quality, enhancing wildlife habitat, and improving forest resilience.

Folks in the neighborhood can expect to see slightly more traffic in the coming months, similar to construction of a new house. We expect the project to last approximately 6 to 9 months. I attached a pamphlet to this email that explains a bit more about JCD and the goals of the project.

Please feel free to share this information with the community as needed, and let us know if you'd like any additional details.

Thanks,

Matt
